How We Do It

"Our Approach"

At Infinium Med, we take a completely different approach (and smarter) to the assessment and treatment of people suffering with chronic health problems. It's a healing-oriented approach that takes account of the whole person, including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic patient-doctor relationship and makes intelligent use of all appropriate diagnostic tools, technologies, and therapies from both conventional medicine and natural/alternative medicine.

The two sides of the coin - conventional therapy alone or alternative therapy alone – represent misguided medicine. Health professionals entrenched solely in one camp do their patients a major disservice. Smart medicine doesn’t choose sides.
— STEPHEN T. SINATRA, MD

Core Principles of Our Approach

• Preventative

Maintaining order rather than correcting disorder is the ultimate principle of wisdom. To cure disease after it has appeared is like digging a well when one already feels thirsty or forging weapons after the war has already begun
— Nei Jing (China, 200 B.C.)

The ultimate goal of any health care system should be prevention. At Infinium Med, we provide care for when you're ill, but even more importantly, we want to help you avoid becoming ill in the first place.

• Relationship-Centered

The doctor-patient relationship is at the core of medicine. One of the most important aspects of healing is the communication and relationship established between you and your doctor. We partner with our patients so they don’t have to embark on their journey alone. Together, we will take the time to get to know each other, to develop trust, and mutual respect. We will mutually participate, working as partners, to create healing, balance and wellness in your life.

• Healing Environment

We facilitate an environment that is conducive to patient healing:

  • An environment that instills a sense of hope – a belief in positive outcomes and that you are capable of making a true and lasting recovery.

  • An environment where you feel listened to and cared for.

  • An environment that lends non-judgmental support and encouragement.

  • An environment where you feel empowered and are an equal and important member of the team.

• Holistic

We understand that everything in our lives and our health is connected. We believe to facilitate true healing, all factors that influence health and disease must be taken into consideration – mind, spirit, community, and lifestyle, as well as the physical body.

• Identify & Treat the Underlying Cause

Illness does not occur without cause. Symptoms are an expression of underlying imbalances or dysfunctions, not the cause of the disease. The underlying causes can occur on many levels including physical, mental, and spiritual. These underlying causes must be discovered and removed before a person can truly and completely heal.

• Maximize the Body's Natural Ability to Heal

The human organism has a powerful and unique capacity to heal itself. When you cut yourself, your body automatically starts the process of healing.  You do not have to stop everything you are doing and tell your body, “hey, start healing that wound”.

It is our role to support, facilitate, and augment this process by identifying and removing obstacles to healing and health, and by supporting the creation of a healthy and balanced internal (mind, body, spirit) and external environment (physical and social).

Basically, with any illness, we always ask these two questions:

  • What is harming you and needs to be removed to permit the body to heal?

  • What is lacking or what does your body need to promote healing?

• Personalized Medicine

Since each patient is unique and presents with their own set of circumstances*, each patient may have different underlying mechanisms (root causes) for the same health problem. This calls for individualized treatment versus “cookbook” type treatment where you are treating the disease, regardless of the cause.

*i.e. biochemistry, genetics, personality, specific beliefs and attitudes, coping mechanisms, where they live, physical and social climate, diseases they have, what they eat, stresses in their lives, etc.

• Doctor as Teacher

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

At Infinium Med, we take patient education very seriously and believe that you have a greater opportunity for success, both short and long-term, when you understand the how and why of your health challenges and take personal responsibility for your health and well-being.

Doctor comes from the Latin "Docere", meaning to teach.  A major role of the doctor is to educate their patients on the factor that effect health so that they are more informed about the impact of their choices and to empower them to so they are more capable of maintaining their own health and well-being.

Ultimately, it is the patient, not the doctor, who creates healing and wellness.

• Diet & Lifestyle

Today, most chronic diseases are lifestyle diseases and one of the common elements to all these conditions is the growing medical literature on how lifestyle and dietary changes are not only preventative, but are also treatments for these conditions.

For example:

  • Chronic diseases – such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and arthritis – are among the most common, costly, and preventable of all health problems in the U.S.  Four modifiable health risk behaviors - lack of physical activity, poor nutrition, tobacco use, and excessive alcohol consumption are responsible for much of the illness, suffering, and early death related to chronic diseases. (CDC)

  • The “EPIC” study from the Archives of Internal Medicine studied 23,000 people’s adherence to 4 simple lifestyle behaviors (not smoking, exercising 30 minutes a day, eating a whole food, nutritious diet, and keeping Body Mass Index below 30 (obesity = BMI > 30). For those following these lifestyle behaviors, 93% of diabetes, 81% of heart attacks, 50 % of strokes and 36% of all cancers were prevented.

  • The INTERHEART study in 2004 looked at 30,000 people in 52 countries and found that attention to lifestyle factors prevented 90% of heart disease in both sexes, in all age groups, in all countries.
